A history - The Johnstone Group

We have been building our business since 1984, when the Johnstone family opened their first card and gift shop in Preston, in Melbourne's northern suburbs. Other stores followed, until 1994 trading as "Johnstone's". At that time, the time felt right to change our name to Cardeaux - "cadeaux" means "gifts" in French, the "r" was added to reflect the importance of greeting cards to the business. Rip It Up followed in 1995, with the different name being given to our new shops with a higher proportion of fun, novelty and licensed character merchandise. As of 2008 all stores are now known as Cardeaux as there was little difference between the Rip It Up stores and the Cardeaux stores.

Mark and Paul Johnstone are always looking out for the right opportunities to open new stores. If there isn't a Cardeaux shop near you now, there may soon be!
